MISS UNIVERSE 2012

На проходившем в американском Лас-Вегасе международном конкурсе "Мисс Вселенная" корону первой красавицы получила 20-летняя "Мисс США" Оливия Кульпо.

Девушка, которая играет на виолончели и является активной сторонницей борьбы с раком молочной железы, склонила на свою сторону симпатии десяти членов жюри после дефиле в бикини и вечерних платьях.

Брюнетка из Род-Айленда была названа лучшей среди красавиц из 89 стран мира. Кульпо стала восьмой победительницей из Соединенных Штатов за 60-летнюю историю конкурса и первой обладательницей этого престижного титула с 1997 года.

Кульпо сменила прошлогоднюю победительницу Лейлу Лопес - первую в истории "Мисс Вселенная" из Анголы.

Второе место судьи отдали 23-летней "Мисс Филиппины" Джанин Тугонон.

Третьей стала представительница Венесуэлы Ирен София Эссер Кинтеро.

"Мисс Гватемала" Лаура Годой получила титул "Мисс Конгениальность".

Россию в этом году представляла 19-летняя Елизавета Голованова из Смоленска. Обладательница титула "Мисс Россия-2012" учится в Московском университете путей сообщения на юридическом факультете.

Елизавету Голованову, как следует из ее портфолио на сайте конкурса "Мисс Вселенная", больше волнуют межличностные отношения и положение человека в обществе. "Одной из самых больших глобальных проблем является то, что большинство людей боятся быть самими собой. Я думаю, что мы должны быть более открытыми друг к другу и стремиться к искренности", - сообщила она организаторам. Россиянка также поведала, что любит играть на фортепиано, готовить, заниматься пилатесом и путешествовать.

Из представительниц постсоветских государств в конкурсе "Мисс Вселенная" также участвовали украинка Анастасия Чернова и Тамар Шедания из Грузии.

По условиям конкурса участницы должны быть в возрасте от 18 до 27 лет, не состоять в браке и не иметь детей. "Мисс Вселенная" вручаются две короны - бриллиантовая и жемчужная - общей стоимостью 270 тысяч долларов, грант в размере 45 тысяч долларов на обучение в Нью-Йоркской школе кино и ТВ. Она также получает зарплату в обмен на год работы на благотворительность и следование определенному моральному кодексу.

CAVE DIVING

Amazing expriences: Cave diving Ordinskaya or the Orda caves is the Rongest underwater cave in Russia. According to the Orda Cave Awareness Project it is the First and only under water gypsum

exursion cave in the world.

The cave is located in the Western Urals region of Russia and consists of almost 5 kilometers

(3 miles)  of dramatic natural channels with water so clear divers can see over 45 meters (50 yards)

ahead of them.

The two founders of the project are Vitya Lyagushkin,a famous underwater photographer,journalist and dive-instructor; and Bogdana Vashchenko,a diving journalist.

World Record For A Colorless Diamond

Archduke Joseph Diamond

The 76-carat unmounted, cushion-shaped diamond was the property of the Archduke Joseph August of Austria, Palatine of Hungary (1872-1962). While the official auction house estimate is upon request, the gem was expected to fetch $15 million. It sold for $21.5 million.

 

A large, D-color, Internally Flawless diamond with outstanding pedigree in origin and ownership sold for $21.5 million at Christie’s Geneva Magnificent Jewels auction on Tuesday.

The 76-carat Archduke Joseph Diamond was sold to a phone bidder during the auction held at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues, Geneva. The unmounted, cushion-shaped gem is from the historic Golconda region of India, one of the oldest diamond mining regions in the world and where some of the most storied diamonds on earth where discovered. The Gemological Institute of America said it is the largest D-color, IF diamond it ever graded from the historic region. It was the property of the Archduke Joseph August of Austria, Palatine of Hungary (1872-1962), a member of the House of

Habsburg.

“I am thrilled but not surprised that the Archduke Joseph Diamond should have fetched such a high price,” said the former owner of the diamond, Alfredo J. Molina, CEO of America’s Black, Starr & Frost jewelers. “I was blessed to be the Archduke’s guardian and champion for the past 13 years, and indeed it has become part of my very identity.”

 

Highlights of the sale include:

 

A Pair of Unmounted Brilliant-Cut Diamonds.

 

 

 

The twin gems sold in separate lots each for $2.1 million. The diamonds were each 25.28 carats and have identical G color, VVS1 clarity characteristics. Each gem also has the same estimate of $2.3 million to $2.5 million.

 

 

Sapphire and Diamond ‘Transcendence’ Butterfly Brooch by Cindy Chao.

 

 

 

The body of the pavé-set diamond butterfly is a pentagonal-cut diamond, weighing approximately 3.01 carats, the wings are enhanced by briolette diamonds, sapphire beads and vari-cut sapphires. It is mounted in titanium and gold and signed by artist. It has an estimate of $206,035 – $253,582 and sold for $954,102.

The shield shaped fancy intense blue diamond center, SI1clarity, weighing approximately 3.33 carats, flanked on either side by single old-cut pear-shaped diamonds with a suspended diamond. Wartski, the London antique jeweler, is a “royal warrant of appointment” for the British Royal Family. Estimate: $1 million – $1.4 million. Sold for $2.4 million.

 

 

 Bulgari Art Deco Sapphire and Diamond Sautoir.

 

 

 

 

 

The circa 1930s baguette and circular-cut diamond geometric pendant is centered upon a star sapphire, suspended from a sautoir composed of cabochon sapphire and diamond cluster panels with diamond collet connecting links. Estimate: $320,000 – $530,000. Sold for $662,483.

A 70-carat unmounted rectangular-cut fancy vivid yellow diamond failed to sell. It had an estimate of $3.1 million to $5 million.

 The auction took in more than $85 million, selling 84 percent by lot and 86 percent by value. This result, combined with the total achieved for the category in May, concludes the most successful year for Christie’s jewelry department in Switzerland, with annual sales exceeding $195.2 million.
